Forehead lines

Forehead lines, also frequently called transverse forehead lines or simply worry lines, are the characteristic horizontal creases that span the width of the forehead. These lines are a result of repetitive facial expressions, specifically the constant raising of the eyebrows by the large underlying frontalis muscle. While these lines contribute to expression and animation in youth, repeated movement eventually causes them to become permanently etched into the skin, often making individuals appear older or perpetually surprised even at rest.

  • What they are: These are the horizontal lines or creases that run across the breadth of the forehead.
  • How they form: They are caused by the repeated action of raising the eyebrows (using the frontalis muscle) when expressing surprise, curiosity, or emphasis.

  • Common Nickname: They are often referred to as worry lines or surprise lines.

The best solution for horizontal forehead lines, or “worry lines,” when applying the philosophy of Natural Neurotoxin Artistry, is a meticulous and balanced approach to neurotoxin injection.

Balanced Neurotoxin Treatment for Forehead Lines

The primary goal of this technique is to soften the lines without causing the eyebrows to drop (a common side effect of overtreatment) or creating a completely “frozen” appearance.

  • Target Muscle: The injections specifically target the frontalis muscle , which is the large, sheet-like muscle responsible for lifting the eyebrows and causing these horizontal creases.
  • The Artistry of Dosing: The practitioner uses low, precisely placed micro-doses across the forehead. Because the frontalis is the only muscle that lifts the brow, injecting too much or too low can paralyze the lift, resulting in a heavy or depressed brow line. Natural artistry requires finding the “sweet spot” to reduce the muscle’s strength enough to smooth the lines while preserving its ability to make minor, natural lifts and expressions.
  • Balancing the Glabella: Treatment of the forehead must always be balanced with the Glabella (“11s”) muscles (corrugator and procerus). If you treat the forehead lines but not the frown lines, the forehead lifting muscle is weakened, and the untreated frowning muscles can pull the brow down even harder, creating an unhappier look. Treating both areas simultaneously ensures a harmonious, natural-looking lift and relaxation.

Combination for Deep Lines

For clients with deeply etched static lines (lines visible even when the face is at rest), Natural Neurotoxin Artistry may recommend a combination approach:

  • Neurotoxin First: The neurotoxin is used to stop the muscle movement that deepens the lines.
  • Dermal Filler Second: A thin, low-viscosity hyaluronic acid filler may be carefully placed directly into the deep creases. This physically plumps the indentation, correcting the static line left behind after the muscle is relaxed.

This combined approach provides the best, most natural outcome by addressing both the muscle movement (dynamic lines) and the skin damage (static lines).

Smooth stress without sacrificing expression. Tailored Neurotoxin dosing maintains lift and authenticity.
